19 January 2022: Having achieved considerable growth over the last twelve months, particularly due to new business wins in the rural and agriculture sector, the Environmental division at QuestGates has secured additional expertise in the form of Aideen McArdle who joins as an environmental adjuster and Steven Smith who is an environmental fisheries expert.

Steven was previously employed as a Fisheries Enforcement Officer at the Environment Agency and has over 40 years’ experience with the EA and its predecessors working on/with fisheries. He has significant experience in the wider spectrum of EA work such as providing mutual aid with flood events and management of harbours. Steven is fully warranted as a High Impact Fisheries Enforcement Officer and his duties included monitoring fish stocks, attending fish mortality incidents and visiting and advising angling clubs and fishery owners. His appreciation for fish isn’t limited to work for the EA – he has himself managed a salmon hatchery and fish farm. Steven’s wealth of experience will be a great addition to offer our clients in his consultancy position within our Environmental Division. In this new role, Steven will assist with the management, assessment and negotiation of complex claims following fish kills and other environmental incidents.

Aideen has spent the past 5 years as a specialist environmental handler for a large rural and agriculture insurer whilst also gaining experience in other areas of complex liability claims. Aideen has extensive knowledge of EIL policy coverage and environmental legislation whilst also having a degree in Environmental Health. She previously worked for an environmental consultant in Northern Ireland where she experienced first-hand the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites.
